Package delivery vans present dangers to drivers and even more so to pedestrians. The demands placed on commercial van drivers by their employers and online retailers are in some instances overwhelming.
Lately, weāve seen television documentaries about the severe strain on delivery drivers. When that strain overwhelms a driver, the cost to victims is often high and sometimes, ultimate. Because commercial trucks can be upwards of 4 or 5 times the size and weight of normal vehicles, the results of accidents with one can be devastating to the victims and to the family members of those victims.
Oftentimes, delivery van and ride share accidents can be caused by the same reasons from case to case: faulty brakes, overloaded vehicles, and driver fatigue. Driver fatigue comes from being overworked, having to drive long distances in very compact timeframes, and making too many deliveries in one day. Usually, a driver is mandated to run through a multi-point checklist to confirm that the truck equipment is up to par. But when the driver isnāt up to par, the delivery van isnāt either.
